Google has introduced a range of updates to its Gemini AI models, including the launch of Gemini 1.5 Flash, a lightweight model designed for speed and efficiency. This new model excels in tasks like summarization, chat applications, and data extraction, thanks to its training through distillation from the larger 1.5 Pro model.

The company has also significantly enhanced Gemini 1.5 Pro, extending its context window to a groundbreaking two million tokens and improving its capabilities in code generation, logical reasoning, and multimodal understanding. This model is now integrated into Google products like Gemini Advanced and Workspace apps.

Additionally, Google announced its next generation of open models, Gemma 2, designed for breakthrough performance and efficiency. The Gemma family expands with PaliGemma, the first vision-language model inspired by PaLI-3.

Google also shared progress on Project Astra, its vision for the future of AI assistants. Prototype agents have been developed that can process information faster, understand context better, and respond quickly in conversations. The company envisions a future where people have expert AI assistants by their side, through devices like phones or glasses.
